Privacy policy
A short site with one form deserves a short honest policy. This page tells you what leaves your browser, where it goes, how long it stays and how to make it stop.

Who is responsible for your data
The controller of the personal data described here is MLJ, SASU, a French simplified joint stock company registered under SIREN 934 769 837, which publishes WordRate at wordrateapp.com. The publication director, Jimenez Julien, handles privacy requests personally. You can reach him at jimenezjulien42@gmail.com in English or in French. Company identification details are listed in full on the legal notice.
What this website collects
These pages carry no advertising trackers, no third party analytics cookies, no social media pixels, no heat mapping and no fingerprinting scripts. Nothing is set in your browser for marketing purposes. The website loads two font families from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those font files and Google receives the request, including your IP address, as part of delivering them. No account is needed to read any page here.
The only personal data we actively collect through this website is what you type into the contact form on the home page. Those fields are named, in the form itself: name (your full name), email (your work email address), company (your translation business name), role (your job title, chosen from a list), request (what you would like from us, chosen from a list), size (your annual volume or the number of linguists you work with, chosen from a list), message (your free text description of how you quote today) and consent (the checkbox recording that you agreed to this policy).
The form also carries three hidden values that are not about you: form-name, which routes the submission, subject, which labels the notification email, and recipient, which is our own address. A field called bot-field is present and hidden from human visitors; it exists only to catch automated spam and should always arrive empty.
Why we process it, and on what legal basis
We use what you send for one purpose: to answer you, and if you ask for one, to prepare and hold a demonstration of WordRate priced against your own work. We do not build advertising profiles, we do not enrich your record from data brokers, and we do not sell or share your details with anyone for their own marketing.
Under the European General Data Protection Regulation, the legal basis is your consent, given by ticking the consent box, together with our legitimate interest in responding to a business enquiry addressed to us. Under United States state privacy laws, this processing is a straightforward business communication that you initiated. You may withdraw consent at any time by writing to the address above, and withdrawal does not affect processing that already took place.
Who processes it, and where
Form submissions are processed and stored by Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States, which hosts this website and operates Netlify Forms. A copy of each submission is stored in the Netlify dashboard for our account and a notification is emailed to the publisher, where it is read in an ordinary email inbox. Netlify acts as our processor under a data processing agreement and does not use submissions for its own purposes.
Because our host is a United States company and the publisher is established in France, personal data may be transferred between the European Union and the United States. Those transfers rely on the European Commission standard contractual clauses incorporated into our agreement with Netlify, together with the technical measures described below. If you have questions about the transfer mechanism, ask and we will send the current documentation.
How long submissions are kept
Contact form submissions are kept for twenty four months from the date you send them, so that we can trace a conversation that started with a question and resumed a year later, then they are deleted from the Netlify dashboard and from the email archive. Messages that are obvious spam are deleted as soon as they are identified, usually within a week. If you ask us to delete your message sooner we do it within thirty days and confirm by email. Nothing in a contact form submission is used to create a WordRate account; that only happens when you deliberately sign up for the product, which is covered by the customer terms rather than by this page.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS only, with strict transport security and content type protections set at the edge. Access to the Netlify dashboard where submissions are stored is limited to the publisher and protected by two factor authentication. Notification email is held in an account with two factor authentication as well. No printed copies of submissions are made. We would rather hold less data than defend more of it, which is why the form asks for seven fields and not seventeen.
Your rights if you live in the United States
Residents of California under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended, Colorado under the Colorado Privacy Act, Connecticut under the Connecticut Data Privacy Act, Utah under the Utah Consumer Privacy Act and Virginia under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act have the right to know what personal data we hold about them, to obtain a copy of it, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Several of those laws also give you the right to opt out of sale, of sharing for cross context behavioral advertising, and of profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We do not sell personal data, we do not share it for cross context behavioral advertising, and we run no profiling, so there is nothing there for you to opt out of, but the rights are yours regardless.
To use any of these rights, email jimenezjulien42@gmail.com from the address you used on the form, or tell us enough about your message that we can find it. We answer within forty five days, usually within two business days, and we do not charge for a first request. You may appoint an authorized agent to act for you, and you may appeal a refusal by replying to our answer with the word appeal in the subject line. We will never treat you differently for exercising a privacy right, because there is no service to withhold.
Your rights under the GDPR
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Use the same email address for all of them. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; ours is the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertes in Paris, and you may equally complain to the authority where you live or work.
Children's privacy
WordRate is a professional tool for people who translate for a living, and this website is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under sixteen years of age. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, write to us and we will delete it promptly and confirm that we have done so.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page and describe the change in the paragraph below. This version replaces the previous one in full and reflects the current set of form fields and the current retention period. Material changes affecting people who have already written to us are announced by email to the address they used.
